The 2025 European Athletics Congress and Convention, staged in the stunning coastal city of Batumi, Georgia, from 21 to 25 October, promises to be a highlight of the sport’s conference calendar-culminating in the European Athletics Congress and Golden Tracks Award Ceremony on 25 October. 

Following the European Athletics EXBO and European Athletics Council meetings on 21-23 October, the stage switches to the Convention on 24 October, which features a packed schedule of the most important topics dominating the future of the sport, led by some of its most influential and knowledgeable voices. 

After a team-bonding morning run, an enriching schedule of workshops awaits. Following the opening remarks led by European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov, the convention will feature the following presentations:

  • Athletics For All - Ways to grow participation and The Outdoor Hunt

An interactive workshop led by Scott Grace (GBR) a member of the European Athletics Development Commission and England Athletics’ National Technical Lead for Youth and Resource Development.
He will be joined by fellow members of the European Athletics Development Commission, including Chair and European Athletics Vice President Karin Grute Movin (SWE).

Discover how inclusivity can drive growth and impact in your member federation through an energizing “speed meeting” format. Plus, a follow up interactive “Outdoor Hunt” to experience what the European Athletics’ initiatives’ Athletics For All truly means.

  • Competition Embracing Change - European Athletics Landscape

Led by Cherry Alexander (GBR), Championships Director of Birmingham 2026 and European Athletics’ Vice President on how we have to be open to evolve our sport to be relevant in the modern environment to engage younger generations and increase the reach of competition to viewers. Includes a review of 2025 events and plans for 2026 events and a Q & A to discuss ideas, lessons learned from innovative technology and new events.

  • Governance Building Trust: Practical Governance for today’s challenges

A workshop led by Frank Carreras (GIB), President of the Gibraltar Amateur Athletic Association, Leader of the Athletic Association of Small States of Europe and European Athletics Council Member.

This workshop will provide member federations with practical tools and guidance to enhance their governance structures in line with European Athletics standards. The session is designed to support leaders in building more accountable, inclusive, and resilient federations.

  • Fast Track to Sustainability: Levels, Leadership & Legacy

Led by Katrin Heyers (GER), Chair of the European Athletics Sustainability Working Group, supported by fellow members of the group, Ana Krstevska (MKD) and Emmanuelle Jaeger (FRA).

A workshop highlighting good practice in the sport in sustainability leadership. They will also introduce the new Sustainability Ambassadors Project to support Member Federations in accelerating work in this area.

The Convention will be moderated by Sydney 2000 Olympic 400m bronze medallist and BBC broadcaster Katharine Merry (GBR). With an accomplished and diverse lineup of moderators and speakers covering some of the most important areas in the sport, the event is expected to be a rewarding and valuable gathering for the sport in Europe.
