Miltiadis Tentoglou improved his meeting record on home soil at the Piraeus Street Long Jump, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on Sunday (28) evening.
The reigning European and Olympic champion continued his excellent start to the season by jumping 8.36m in the fourth round before extending his meeting record for the second time in the competition with a sixth round mark of 8.39m.
This was Tentoglou’s third best wind-legal jump of the season as he continues to build towards the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham from 10-16 August when he will target his fourth successive title.
In a high calibre competition which saw five jumpers surpass the 8.10m-barrier, Jeremiah Davis from the United States finished second with 8.21m with 2017 world champion Luvo Manyonga from South Africa continuing his comeback in third with a wind-aided 8.15m.
In the women’s long jump, Serbia’s Milica Gardasevic jumped 6.70m in the fifth round, surpassing 2023 European indoor champion Jazmin Sawyers’ mark of 6.61m, also from the fifth round.
2023 world long jump bronze medallist Alina Rotaru-Kottmann from Romania jumped 6.50m to finish third.
