Miltiadis Tentoglou took a popular victory on home soil at the Piraeus Street Long Jump, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on Sunday (23) evening.

But in his first competition since winning his third European title with a championship record of 8.65m, Tentoglou only won by a narrow margin ahead of two of Europe’s most promising youngsters in the event.
Tentoglou’s first round mark of 8.06m sufficed for victory ahead of Bulgaria’s European U20 silver medallist Bozhidar Saraboyukov who threatened Tentoglou’s lead with 8.05m and 8.04m in the fifth and sixth rounds respectively with 18-year-old Czech Petr Meindlschmid improving to 8.00m in the sixth round to finish third.
In the women’s competition, world bronze medallist Alina Rotaru-Kottman from Romania leapt out to a brilliant 6.94m - the second longest jump of her career - for a clear victory over Cyprus’ Filippa Kvitten (6.64m) and Poland’s Magdalena Bokun (6.55m).
Kaczmarek smashes 200m lifetime best in Poznan
Taking full advantage of a 2.0 m/s tailwind, recently crowned European 400m champion Natalia Kaczmarek smashed her lifetime best over 200m at the Czeslaw Cybulski Memorial, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on Sunday (23).
Kaczmarek stopped the clock at 22.70 to shave 0.16 from her lifetime best for a clear victory over Great Britain’s Bianca Williams in 23.24.
In the hammer, Pawel Fajdek turned the tables on three-time European champion Wojciech Nowicki - 78.77m to 78.37m - and world record-holder Anita Wlodarczyk won the women’s hammer with 72.00m.
There were also notable Polish victories for former European champion Justyna Swiety-Ersetic who continued her comeback in the 400m in 51.91 while Aneta Konieczek won the rarely contested 2000m steeplechase in a world lead of 6:00.81 to move to tenth on the world all-time list.
