Lamont Marcell Jacobs is part of an all-star line-up in the men's 100m at the Raiffeisen Austrian Open in Eisenstadt, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on 1 July and will be streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel.
Jacobs is one of three Olympic champions who have been announced by the organisers for the 100m along with 2016 Olympic 400m champion Wayde van Niekerk from South Africa and Brendon Rodney who was part of Canada’s gold medal-winning 4x100m team in Paris 2024.
The line-up also includes European 100m bronze medallist Romell Glave, German record-holder Owen Ansah, Austrian record-holder and home favourite Markus Fuchs and 2016 Olympic 4x100m silver medallist Yoshihide Kiryu from Japan.
Jacobs, who won the 100m and 4x100m titles at the 2020 Olympic Games, has made a quietly auspicious start to the season. He ran a season’s best of 9.99 in the Rome Diamond League, his fastest time in two years.
Jacobs is targeting a third successive European 100m title at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham from 10-16 August, a feat which hasn’t been achieved since Linford Christie in 1994.
The women’s 100m features Isabel Posch, Magdalena Lindner and Christania Williams, all of whom were part of the Austrian team that recently smashed the Austrian 4x100m record with 43.11. International opposition comes from Germany’s multiple major relay medallist Rebekka Haase.
Jamaicans Megan Simmonds and Britany Anderson are due to go head-to-head in the women’s 100m hurdles and home favourite Lukas Weisshaidinger is confirmed for the men’s discus.
Ukraine’s Lyudmyla Olyanovska is also targeting a world best in the seldom contested one mile race walk. The world best currently stands at 6:16.72.
