Gabriel Tual moved to second on the European all-time list for the rarely-run 600m at the Meeting Nikaia, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, on Saturday (31).
The reigning European outdoor 800m champion stopped the clock at 1:14.01, a time which has only been bettered among European athletes by his teammate Pierre Ambroise-Bosse who clocked 1:13.21 in 2016.
On his outdoor season’s debut, 2024 Rising Star Niels Laros from the Netherlands finished third in the men’s 5000m in a lifetime best of 13:10.86 behind Eritrea’s Saymon Amanuel (13:01.85) and Ethiopia’s Khairi Bejiga (13:06.95).
Laros, who turned 20 in April, moves to sixth on the European all-time U23 list which is headed by Jakob Ingebrigtsen with his 12:48.45 clocking in 2021, a European senior record at the time.
There were also notable wins and lifetime bests in the 1500m for France’s Anas Lagtiy Chaoudar who won the men’s 1500m in 3:33.67 and for Great Britain’s Erin Wallace who improved to 4:02.92 in the women’s 1500m.
Moser clears 4.73m in the pole vault in Gräfeling
European indoor champion Angelica Moser made an auspicious debut to her outdoor season with a 4.73m clearance at the Touch the Clouds Festival, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, in Gräfeling on Saturday (31).
At the PUMA NITRO Long Running Night, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event, European U23 3000m steeplechase champion Olivia Gürth won the women’s race in 9:33.06 while Luxembourg’s Ruben Querinjean won the men’s race in 8:21.82.
Fresh from his incredible 8:01.49 3000m steeplechase in Rabat last weekend, Frederik Ruppert won his section of the 1500m in a lifetime best of 3:38.12.
European indoor bronze medallist Engla Nilsson from Sweden cleared a 1.93m lifetime best to win at the Jump Festival Opole, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meeting, on Sunday (1) with Mateusz Kolodziejski equalling his lifetime best of 2.23m to win the men’s competition.
2022 European champion Julian Weber maintained his brilliant start to the season with victory in the javelin at the Hylo Javelin Meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event, in Offenburg on Sunday (1) with 86.18m.
Eugene Amo-Dadzie became the first European to break the sub-10 second barrier in the 100m in 2025 with a 9.99 clocking in Lee Valley on Sunday (1).
