With just two evenings left of the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships (10-16 August), the allocation of the Gold Crowns is being to take shape, with the first winner already confirmed.
The leading performances across 10 event groups are each awarded a Gold Crown and a performance bonus of €50,000.
With the individual men’s sprints programme completed, Norway’s Karsten Warholm has already secured a Gold Crown with his superb championships record of 46.63 to win the men’s 400m hurdles.
But nine other Gold Crowns are still up for grabs in the final two days of action. The occupants as of Saturday (15) morning were:
- Women’s sprints and hurdles - Emma Zapletalová (SVK), 400m hurdles (52.91)
- Men’s middle and long distance – Mark English (IRL), 800m (1:45.26)
- Women’s middle and long distance – Audrey Werro (SUI), 800m (1:54.81)
- Men’s throws – Kristjan Ceh (SLO), discus, 72.51m
- Women’s throws – Jessica Schilder (NED), shot put, 20.73m
- Men’s jumps – Miltiadis Tentoglou (GRE), long jump, 8.44m
- Women’s jumps – Angelica Moser (SUI), pole vault, 4.80m
- Men’s Road, Combined Events and Relays – Leo Neugebauer, decathlon, 8611 points
- Women’s Road, Combined Events and Relays - vacant
The Gold Crown initiative supports the vision of the European Athletics Strategic Roadmap 2024-2027 in which competition and athletes are prioritised and it includes an objective to “strengthen the European Athletics Championships, attracting the best athletes and creating the best possible event for fans, sponsors and broadcasters alike.”
