Many of Portugal's leading athletes will be in action domestically at the Meeting Moniz Pereira, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger meeting, on Sunday (25) afternoon.
The meeting will be streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel without any geoblocking restrictions from 4.00pm local time (5.00pm CET).
One of the standout events on the programme is the women's shot put which features Auriol Dongmo and Jessica Inchude, both of whom won major European medals in 2025.
In her comeback season after breaking her leg in 2024, Dongmo returned to win bronze in the shot put at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships behind Yemisi Ogunleye and Jessica Schilder while Inchude clinched her second title at the European Throwing Cup in Nicosia in March.
In fact, it was at this meeting last year where Dongmo competed for the first time after surgery and she took the victory in Pombal with 18.29m.
European bronze medallist Agate de Sousa is also due to compete in the long jump although the 25-year-old will face stern domestic opposition from Evelise Veiga who has a lifetime best of 6.74m.
On the track, Omar Elkhatib is due to compete in the men’s 400m. The 24-year-old has been a key part of Portugal’s improving team in the 4x400m in recent years. He ran the anchor leg for their team at the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome where they finished sixth in a national record of 3:01.89.
This meeting is named after the legendary athletics coach Mario Moniz Pereira who died in 2016 at the age of 95. Among the athletes who passed through his ranks were 1984 Olympic marathon champion Carlos Lopes and former world 10,000m record-holder Fernando Mamede.
