Men’s discus world record holder Mykolas Alekna logged the tenth 70 metre-plus competition of his career in Berkeley, USA on Saturday (3).
The Lithuanian Olympic silver medallist produced an awesome series including an opening 71.29m, a third round 70.31m and a fifth round 71.06m.
At the same meeting, Sweden’s Caisa-Marie Lindfors won the women’s discus with 61.52m. Meanwhile in the same event in Jacksonville, USA, European U23 champion Alida van Daalen won with 65.45m, setting a marker for a promising season to come.
Rooth returns with javelin PB
Norway’s Olympic decathlon champion Markus Rooth emerged from winter training at a domestic meeting in Baerum with a new javelin personal best of 67.90m, a 1.03m improvement from his result at the Paris Olympics.
On the roads, Germany’s Samuel Fitwi Sibhatu was second to Kenya’s James Kipkurui at the Gutenburg Mainz Half Marathon. The winner clocked 60:50, with Fitwi Sibhatu 32 seconds behind. It was just five seconds adrift of his lifetime best, set when placing fifth at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships.
