Pauline Hondema broke the 11-year-old Dutch long jump record held by former world heptathlon bronze medallist and twice world 200m gold medallist Dafne Schippers at the Guldensporenmeeting in Kortrijk, Belgium on Saturday (12). 

Hondema, seventh at the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships, leapt to 6.91m (+1.7m/s) at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, 13 centimetres beyond Schippers' previous record. 

Fabbri on form

A day later at the 36th Meeting Internazionale Sport e Solidarieta Lignano, Italy, European shot put champion Leonardo Fabbri landed a meeting record of 22.13m to win ahead of Italian teammate and training partner Zane Weir, whose best was 20.98m.

Also at the same World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, 2022 world 1500m champion Jake Wightman won the 800m in 1:44.71. 

There were also some significant middle distance performances at the Meeting International de Marseille in France on Sunday (13). In a race won by Kenya’s Celestine Biwot in 8:46.04, Vera Bertemes-Hoffmann set a new women’s 3000m national record for Luxembourg of 8:48.84 in third.  

The men’s 3000m was won by Flavien Szot of France in a meeting record 7:41.63. Esther Guerrero of Spain won the women’s 1500m in 4:03.93 and European indoor champion Anna Wielgosz of Poland, won the women’s 800m in 2:00.08.

Glave and Azu swift sprinting in Stratford

At the Stratford Speed GP in London on Sunday (13), the men’s 100m saw Romell Glave clocking 10.01 (+0.5m/s) and world indoor and European indoor champion Jeremiah Azu run 10.08 (+0.5m/s). 

World heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson returned from injury and competed in the 100m hurdles, clocking 13.75 (+0.5m/s). 

Meanwhile at the Slovenian National Cup meeting in Novo Mesto, world and European indoor medallist Tina Sutej cleared 4.46m to win the women’s pole vault and there was a highly impressive national U18 women’s 800m record set by 15-year-old Ziva Remic of 2:01.99.

Czechia’s Volodymyr Myslyvčuk landed a brilliant mark of 77.74m to win ahead of Patrik Hajek (75.77m) in Pacov on Sunday (13).

At the Portugal Clubs Championships in Leiria on Sunday (13), Olympic and European bronze medallist Mykhaylo Kokhan won the men’s hammer with 75.40m.
