Nadine Visser was in excellent form in the 60m hurdles at the Dutch Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn on Sunday (1).
Visser had to make a belated start to her indoor campaign but the 31-year-old is approaching peak form ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships from 20-22 March, winning the 60m hurdles title in a season’s best of 7.78 ahead of Maayke Tjin-A-Lim in 7.95.
This was Visser’s equal fourth fastest time of her career so far. She set her lifetime best and Dutch record of 7.72 on this very track at the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships when she won silver behind Ditaji Kambundji.
Reigning European indoor champion Lieke Klaver made a winning return to Apeldoorn but only just. She clocked 51.28, holding off Myrtle van de Schoot who improved to 51.33 while European U23 champion Jonas Phijffers won the men’s 400m in 45.57.
World leader Jessica Schilder, who set a Dutch indoor record of 20.69m to win the European indoor title last year, won the shot put title with 19.73m ahead of double European silver medallist Jorinde van Klinken who set a big season’s best of 19.22m, the second longest throw of her career..
7.80 for Kambundji, 1:57.98 for Werro at Swiss Indoors
Reigning world 100m hurdles champion Ditaji Kambundji sped to victory in the 60m hurdles at the Swiss Indoor Championships in St. Gallen on Sunday.
In her first race on Swiss soil since romping to victory at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Kambundji looked in sharp form as she won in 7.80, just 0.02 shy of her season’s best.
Audrey Werro broke the 1:58-barrier in the 800m for the third time since indoor season. The 21-year-old led from gun-to-tape, winning in 1:57.98 ahead of Valentina Rosamilia who also broke the 2:00-barrier in second with 1:59.81.
Jason Joseph won the men’s 60m hurdles title in 7.50 ahead of combined events specialist Simon Ehammer who equalled his lifetime best of 7.55. Ehammer also won the long jump title with 8.12m and vaulted 5.20m as he prepares for the heptathlon at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.
On the first day, Leonie Pointet won the women’s 60m title in 7.12 ahead of Ajla Del Ponte who improved to 7.15, her fastest time since winning the 2021 European indoor title in Torun in 7.03.
Bapte and Belocian sweep 60m hurdles titles in Clermont-Ferrand
Laeticia Bapte posted a pair of fast times in the women’s 60m hurdles at the French Indoor Championships in Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday (28).
After speeding to a season’s best of 7.83 in the 60m hurdles heats, Bapte won the final in 7.86 ahead of Sacha Alessandrini who set a lifetime best of 7.93.
In one of the clashes of the weekend, world and European indoor silver medallist Wilhem Belocian bested Just Kwaou-Mathey in the men’s 60m hurdles, 7.45 to 7.49, with Romain Lecoeur third in a 7.51 PB.
Baptiste Thiery won a high quality men’s pole vault with a 5.90m clearance, winning ahead of Thibaut Collet (5.85m) and Valentin Lavillenie (5.75m).
European indoor champion Agathe Guillemot eased to victory in the 1500m in 4:17.68 while Azeddine Habz won a tactical 3000m in 8:12.21 from Flavien Szot in 8:12.73.
And a fortnight after John Regis’ daughter Renee won the British indoor 200m title, another member of Great Britain’s gold medal-winning team from the 1991 World Athletics Championships won a domestic title.
Isabelle Black, the daughter of Roger, won the women’s 200m in a lifetime best of 23.30.
Elsewhere around Europe...
One day after Francesco Fortunato broke the world indoor 5000m race walk record, European indoor champion Zaynab Dosso won the 60m title at the Italian Indoor Championships in Ancona in 7.10 ahead of 16-year-old European U20 100m champion Kelly Doualla in 7.21.
Christian Falocchi continued his breakthrough indoor season by clearing a 2.30m PB in the high jump and Dario Dester set a national record of 6121 points in the heptathlon. World silver medallist Andrea Dallavalle opened his season with 16.99m for victory in the triple jump over European and world indoor champion Andy Diaz with 16.90m.
World record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh cleared 1.96m to win the high jump title on countback from Yuliia Levchenko at the Ukrainian Indoor Championships in Kyiv. Fellow European indoor champion Oleh Doroshchuk cleared 2.30m to win the men's high jump title.
At the Spanish Indoor Championships in Valencia, European 110m hurdles silver medallist Enrique Llopis won the 60m hurdles title in 7.51. Veteran Eusebio Caceres won an excellent long jump with 8.19m, his best jump in nine years, ahead of Hector Santos (8.03m) and Jaime Guerra (8.01m).
After Emmanouil Karalis soared over 6.17m in the pole vault on the first day of the Greek Indoor Championships in Painaia, Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou won the long jump title with 8.22m.
Simon Verherstraeten provided the highlight of the Belgian Indoor Championships in Louvain-la-Neuve by winning the men's 60m in a national record of 6.52, just 0.01 shy of the European leader. In-form Eliott Crestan won the 800m in 1:45.33.
At the Norwegian Indoor Championships in Bergen, 2023 world 1500m bronze medallist Narve Gilje Nordas made a victorious return to competition after illness, winning the 3000m in 7:41.44.
European and world indoor medallist Patrizia Van Der Weken won both the 60m (7.12) and 200m (23.09) titles at the Luxembourg Indoor Championships. Her winning time in the 200m was also a national record.
