Another exciting and action-packed weekend of athletics awaits with no fewer than four World Athletics Continental Tour Silver and Bronze to be streamed on the European Athletics channels.

Among the highlights, Yemisi Ogunleye and Malaika Mihambo will compete on home soil at the Goldenes Oval in Dresden while 2024 Rising Star Niels Laros from the Netherlands makes his outdoor season’s debut over 5000m in Nice.

Goldenes Oval - Dresden (World Athletics Continental Tour Silver)

One of the standout clashes of the Golden Oval will be the women’s shot put featuring home favourite and Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye up against two-time world champion Chase Jackson from the United States.

Another big draw in Dresden is reigning European long jump champion Malaika Mihambo who is due to compete outdoors for the first time in 2025 after an indoor campaign which culminated with bronze at the European Athletics Indoor Championships.

Two-time Olympic champion Valarie Allman and Olympic bronze medallist Matt Denny also headline the women’s and men’s discus respectively - the initially announced Mykolas Alekna will no longer compete - while Emmanouil Karalis, who has won medals at the last five major championships, including joint gold at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn, contests the pole vault.

On the track Alexandra Burghardt, Sophia Junk, Lisa Mayer and Rebekka Haase - all of whom were part of Germany’s bronze medal-winning team in the 4x100m relay in Paris 2024 - renew their domestic rivalry in the 100m.

Meeting Nikaia - Nice (World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze)

Middle distance action will be the focus of attention at the Meeting Nikaia in Nice.

2024 Rising Star Niels Laros and his Dutch teammate Stefan Nillessen - sixth and ninth respectively in a classic Olympic 1500m final in Paris - both step up in distance to the 5000m while European 10,000m champion Dominic Lobalu from Switzerland drops down in distance to the 1500m.

Home favourite and European 800m champion Gabriel Tual contests the rarely-run 600m, an event in which his compatriot Pierre Ambroise Bosse holds the European best at 1:13.21.

Tag der Überflieger - Essen (World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze)

The two-day programme at the features all four jumping events - long jump, triple jump, high jump and pole vault - for both men and women.

The pick of the action includes an excellent women’s triple jump featuring Romania’s European indoor silver medallist Diana Ana Maria Ion against 2023 European indoor champion Tugba Danismaz from Türkiye and 2015 European indoor silver medallist Gabriela Petrova from Bulgaria.

Many of the top Germans will also be in action across the weekend. Christina Honsel and Imke Onnen face Finland’s Ella Junnila in the women’s high jump while Tobias Potye and 2018 European champion Mateusz Przybylko are due to compete in the men’s high jump.

Reigning world U20 champion Hendrik Muller also faces Belgium’s Ben Broeders in the men’s pole vault.

Venizeleia-Chania International Meeting - Chania (World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze)

A strong men’s hammer field has been assembled featuring reigning European and world U20 hammer champion Iosif Kesidis from Cyprus up against Greek throwers Christos Frantzeskakis and Michail Anastasakis and Czechia’s Volodymyr Myslyvchuk, the surprise silver medallist at the European Throwing Cup.

Other top Greek athletes who are due to compete include Tatiana Gusin (high jump), Nikolaos Andrikopoulos (triple jump) and Konstadinos Douvalidis (110m hurdles).
