World 10,000m champion Jimmy Gressier will contest the 5km at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen on 19-20 September.
Gressier broke his European record at this distance in early April in Lille, clocking 12:51 to move to third on the world all-time list and come within two seconds of the world record.
This will be Gressier’s first race since winning bronze in a sprint finish in the 10,000m at the 2026 European Athletics Championships. The title was won by Sweden’s Andreas Almgren who will be contesting the half marathon.
The French team also includes fellow European Athletics Championships medal winner Etienne Daguinos who outsprinted Gressier for 5000m bronze in Birmingham. Daguinos will be stepping up in distance to contest the half marathon.
Other standout names on the Copenhagen-bound French team include European indoor 1500m champion Agathe Guillemot in the mile and French marathon record-holder Mekdes Woldu in the women’s half marathon.
