Apeldoorn 2025 European indoor 800m champion Samuel Chapple will open his season at the Meeting Miramas, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meet, on 31 January which will be streamed live on the European Athletics channels.

He holds the Dutch indoor record with a time of 3:35.61 over 1500m, and could be on form to challenge that time this season.

Last year Chapple had a breakthrough year that saw him set national short-track records also over 1000m and 800m, after fighting back from a broken ankle and torn ligaments in 2022.

Chapple also won his first European title, and narrowly missed out on a medal at the Nanjing 2025 World Athletics Championships when he placed fourth in the 800m.

The 26-year-old will be targeting a return to the world stage as the Kujawy Pomorze 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships loom, so he can avenge his near miss.

In 2025 he also clocked the 13th fastest time in Europe last year over 800m, less than 1.5 seconds behind the fastest time, so could also be in the mix for success at the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships.
