  • Seven in a row! Duplantis named Swedish Athlete of the Year again

After sweeping the World and European Athlete of the Year accolades, world pole vault record-holder Armand Duplantis was named Swedish Athlete of the Year for the seventh successive year at the Swedish Athletics Gala on Tuesday (20) evening.

Duplantis amassed yet another unbeaten campaign, breaking his world record on four occasions and successfully defending both of his world indoor and outdoor titles.

“I'm just going to keep going! I have some very important competitions coming up. I want to win the Mondo Classic in Uppsala. The two times I compete in Sweden - in Uppsala and in Stockholm, these are the most important for me, besides the championships of course,” said Duplantis.

Duplantis is planning an abbreviated indoor season in 2026, culminating with the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze (Torun) from 20-22 March. He will open his season at the All-Star Perche in Clermont-Ferrand on 22 February before turning his attention to the Mondo Classic on 12 March.

Duplantis won the accolade of Swedish Athlete of the Year ahead of fellow world champion Daniel Stahl with world 10,000m bronze medallist Andreas Almgren, who broke three European records in 2025, third overall.

Almgren’s coach Urban Aruhn was named Coach of the Year while Suldan Hassan and Engla Nilsson shared the Breakthrough of the Year awards.

Hassan broke the Swedish marathon record with a 2:05:57 clocking in the Tokyo Marathon in March while Nilsson cleared a lifetime best of 1.89m in qualifying before improving again to 1.92m in the final to win a surprise bronze medal in the high jump at the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn.
