Hosts Spain have announced their team for the European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division in Madrid from 27-29 June.
The Spanish team is headed by reigning European indoor and outdoor triple jump champion Ana Peleteiro-Compaoré who will be aiming for her first career victory at the European Athletics Team Championships.
The team also features four more medal winners from the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships. European silver medallists Mohamed Attaoui and Enrique Llopis will compete in the 800m and 110m hurdles respectively and European bronze medallists Marta Garcia and Thierry Ndikumwenayo have been selected for the women’s and men’s 5000m.
Ndikumwenayo provided one of five Spanish victories at the 2023 European Athletics Team Championships in Silesia where Spain finished fourth overall, their best finish in the 15-year history of the event.
Another returning winner is Daniel Arce who will be aiming for back-to-back victories in the men's 3000m steeplechase in Madrid.
And there will also be high hopes for Spain in the relays and especially in the women’s 4x100m, particularly after their exploits at the World Relays in Guangzhou where Spain finished second behind Great Britain in the final.
