Following their first gold at this event last year, Ireland are sending a team of 10 athletes to the Spezia 2026 European 10,000m Cup on 23 May.

The reigning champion Efrem Gidey won’t be contesting this year, however Fiona Everard, who placed 10th at the Lagoa 2026 SPAR European Cross Country Championships, will be looking to make her mark.

She’ll also be joined by Niamh Allen who will be racing her first 10,000m on the track after finishing 21st at the world cross country championships in January and setting a PB of 19:50 at the Ballintotis four-mile road race.

Emily Haggard-Kearney, the recently crowned Irish 10km champion, will also be racing after setting a new PB of 32:07 over 10km in March.

Making their Irish senior debut is Dublin City Half Marathon winner Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill, Patricia Jackman and Faye Dervan.

While Callum Morgan leads the men’s side of the squad after being part of the team that took U23 gold at Lagoa 2026 and setting a 10km PB of 28:08 in Valencia in January.

Oisin O’Gailin will also be travelling to Slovenia, alongside Jamie Battle and Michael Murphy who both earn their senior international debuts.
