Pole vaulter Renaud Lavillenie will be the star of the Meeting Lille Metropole, a European Athletics Outdoor Premium Meeting, in the northern French city on Saturday.

Lavillenie, the current European champion indoors and outdoors and the 2012 world-leader in his event, is unbeaten this summer and took his winning streak to six competitions with a vault of 5.82m at the Samsung Diamond League meeting in Oslo on Thursday.

Among his rivals will be his compatriot and two-time World Championships silver medallist Romain Mesnil, Poland's 2011 World Championships gold medallist Pawel Wojciechowski and his fellow Pole Lukasz Michalski, who was fourth in the South Korean city of Daegu last summer.

In the women's pole vault, the 2012 World Indoor Championships silver medallist and French national record holder Vanessa Boslak will provide local interest.

A terrific field for the men's discus has also been assembled which will see Lithuania's Virgilijus Alekna, Estonia's Gerd Kanter – between them the winners of the last three Olympic gold medals - and Türkiye's Ercüment Olgundeniz battle for supremacy.

On the track, Belgium's 2010 European Athletics Championships gold medallist Kevin Borlée will come up against Great Britain's Martyn Rooney over one lap of the track and fast times could ensue if there are good weather conditions.

There is another Belgium v Britain clash in the 200m with Borlée's twin brother Jonathan up against the 2010 European Athletics Championships silver medallist Christian Malcolm.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Kenya's in-form Paul Kipsiele Koech, who nearly broke the world record in Rome last week, will not be able to relax against against France's 2010 European champion Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabad.

The men´s 100m will see 2011 European Athletics Junior Championships gold medallist Jimmy Vicaut on the start line with the British pair of Tyrone Edgar and Simeon Williamson.

There is a strong Ukraine presence in the women's 100m with Mariya Ryemyen and Olesya Povh, two of the fastest women in Europe this year, and local interest is provided by the 2010 European Athletics Championships 2010 gold medallist Myriam Soumaré, who also won the bronze over the shorter sprint distance in Barcelona two years ago.

The could also be some good distances in the women's long jump as Russia's Olga Zaytseva will duel with France's ‰loyse Lesueur, the latter having been in good form in the United States recently, while Poland's 2009 world champion and former world record holder Anita Wlodarczyk features in the women's hammer.
