Italian teenage talents Kelly Doualla and Alessia Succo are both confirmed for the Savona International Meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting, on 20 May.
Doualla and Succo both won medals at last year’s European Athletics U20 Championships in Tampere last August and both athletes are still eligible for the European Athletics U18 Championships on home soil in Rieti from 16-19 June.
At just 15, Doualla won the 100m and 4x100m titles at the European Athletics U20 Championships while a then 16-year-old Succo won bronze in the 100m hurdles.
Both athletes are coming off record-breaking indoor seasons. Now 16, Doualla became the youngest ever athlete to compete for Italy at the World Athletics Indoor Championships while Succo broke the world U18 60m hurdles best with 8.05 at the Italian Indoor Championships.
Doualla and Succo will contest the 100m and 100m hurdles respectively in Savona on the road to Rieti.
Recent highlights at the Savona International Meeting have included Mattia Furlani jumping a marginally wind-aided 8.44m in the long jump in 2023 and Leonardo Fabbri setting an Italian record of 22.95m - the third longest throw in history by a European - in the shot put in 2024.
Keely Hodgkinson also set an outdoor 400m PB of 51.61 on this track in 2024 to finish second behind Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley in 51.43.
