No plans for Saturday evening? Two more World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze events will be streamed live on the European Athletics channels.

Middle distance action will be in focus at the Meeting Indoor de Lyon while the pole vaulters take centre stage at the StarPerche in Bordeaux.

In-form English is back on track

Fresh from setting an Irish indoor 800m record of 1:44.65 in Luxembourg on Sunday, Mark English will be back in action at the Meeting Indoor de Lyon.

The five-time European medallist takes on another strong field which includes Poland’s Maciej Wyderka who finished second behind English in Luxembourg in an indoor lifetime best of 1:45.38. Algeria’s Mohamed Ali Gouaned and Kenya’s Alex Ngeno, both of whom have also broken the 1:44-barrier for 800m, also compete.

From a French perspective, the focus of attention will be on the women’s middle and long distance events.

European indoor silver medallist Clara Liberman makes her season's debut in the women’s 800m and world 1500m finalist Sarah Madeleine, who recently helped France to silver in the mixed relay at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships, is due to target the French indoor 5000m record which stands at 15:31.62.

The line-up for the rarely contested indoor distance also features Tunisia's Marwa Bouzayani who finished fourth in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

Other anticipated track highlights include the women’s 60m hurdles featuring Olympic 100m hurdles finalist Alaysha Johnson from the United States and European U20 champion Jil Sanchez from Switzerland while Eugene Omalla, who was part of the Dutch gold medal-winning team in the mixed 4x400m at the 2024 Olympics, is confirmed for the men’s 400m.

A strong men’s triple jump field has also been assembled, including four jumpers with 17 metre-plus lifetime bests: Brazil’s Almir dos Santos, Algeria’s 2025 world fourth placer Yasser Mohammed Triki, Cuba’s Cristian Napoles and France’s Enzo Hobebar.

Bonnin targeting back-to-back wins in Bordeaux

France’s Marie-Julie Bonnin will be targeting back-to-back victories in her home city at the StarPerche in Bordeaux, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze meeting, on Saturday (24) evening.

The StarPerche will be streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel without any geoblocking restrictions from 6.55pm CET.

Bonnin won at this meeting last year with a meeting record of 4.65m en route to the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing where she won a surprise gold medal.

The organisers have assembled a strong international line-up to face the home favourite including fellow world finalists Juliana de Menis Compos from Brazil, Italy’s Roberta Bruni and New Zealand’s Imogen Ayris.

There will be reasonable expectations of a French double with a strong domestic contingent confirmed for the men’s pole vault, including 2023 European U23 silver medallist Robin Emig who improved to 5.92m last year and former European and world U20 champion Anthony Ammirati.

The line-up also includes the current European U23 champion Simone Bertelli from Italy and Portuguese record-holder Pedro Buaro who has cleared 5.82m.

The meeting record in the men’s pole vault stands at 5.92m to former world record-holder and 2012 Olympic champion Renaud Lavillenie.
