Reigning world U20 champion Meta Tumba will be one of France’s main gold medal hopes at the Tampere 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships from 7-10 August.

The European Athletics U20 Championships will be streamed live on the European Athletics courtesy of Eurovision Sport and will be accompanied by expert English-language commentary.

Tumba was part of France’s gold medal-winning team in the 4x400m relay two years ago and the 19-year-old will be looking to add individual gold to her title collection in the 400m hurdles before turning her focus to the 4x400m on the final day of the championships.

Tumba won the world U20 title in Lima last year with a lifetime best and French U20 record of 55.59 and while she hasn’t replicated this form so far this season, the Frenchwoman still leads the 2025 European U20 list with 56.76.

Tumba is one of a handful of European U20 leaders who have been named on the French team for Tampere 2025. Lenny Chanteur and Ylann Bizasene are first and second on the 2025 European U20 100m list with 10.22 and 10.25 respectively and 17-year-old Remi Mourie leads the European U20 list in the long jump with 8.05m.

Laura Montauban also leads the European U20 list in the 100m hurdles in 13.02 by more than one-tenth.

The 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships should be a more successful campaign for the French contingent compared to two years ago in Jerusalem where they only won one gold medal - the women’s 4x400m relay - and seven in total.
