Fatoumata Binto Diallo took Portugal’s first maximum score of the European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division, winning a dramatic women’s 400m hurdles in 54.77.

Pre-race favourite Ayomide Folorunso went out hard and held the lead coming into the home straight with Spain’s Daniela Fra also making her presence felt up front, much to the delight of the home fans.
But the Italian was not pulling away, and Fra and the chasing pack began to chip away at her lead in the home straight. Off the final hurdle, Diallo took over in front as Fra dramatically tumbled to the track. The delighted Portuguese athlete punched the air as she took victory.
Folounso tried desperately to salvage second place and it was a battle she won, just. She clocked 54.88, fending off Great Britain’s Lina Nielsen (54.90) and Germany’s Elena Kelety (54.91) in a blanket finish.
Muller overhauls Bolvin to win men's 400m hurdles
Vít Müller won a hard-fought men’s 400m hurdles, overpowering Switzerland’s Julien Bolvin in the closing straight to take maximum points for Czechia.
Running from lane tree Bolvin went out hard and made up the stagger on Britain’s Alastair Chalmers by 200 metres. He held the lead right to the tenth hurdles, but Muller had left more in the tank and took over at the that point, running clear to win in 48.46.
Bolvin was now running on heavy legs and Chalmers pipped him at the finish, taking second by 0.02 in 48.64. The bold running Bolvin was at least rewarded with a season’s best to go with third place.
