Italy has named a super strong team for the 2025 European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady, Czechia on 18 May.
The European Race Walking Team Championships will be streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel and will be accompanied by expert English-language commentary.
Two of the standout names on their team are Francesco Fortunato and Massimo Stano who have entered the 20km race walk and 35km race walk respectively.
Fortunato will be looking for back-to-back titles in the 20km race walk while Stano will be seeking yet another accolade to add to his list which includes Olympic 20km race walk gold in Tokyo 2020 and 35km race walk gold at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.
On the women’s side, reigning European 20km race walk champion Antonella Palmisano - who won the first of Italy’s 11 gold medals in Roma 2024 - will move up in distance to contest the 35km race walk, her debut at the event.
And the Italians will also have gold medal prospects in both U20 races courtesy of reigning European U18 champions Alessio Coppola and Serena Di Fabio.
Italy won five gold medals at the 2023 European Race Walking Team Championships including gold in both the men’s and women’s 20km race walk team races.
