World 800m leader Audrey Werro put together impressive back-to-back performances in the 400m and 800m at the Swiss Athletics Championships in Zurich on Saturday (25) and Sunday (26).
As part of her build-up to the Birmingham 2026 European Athletics Championships, where she will have to navigate rounds before bidding for her first major senior title, she took on three races in two days.
She raced in the 400m heats on Saturday and scorched to a new personal best of 50.80. It sliced 0.23 off her previous best over one lap.
She skipped Sunday's final, instead concentrating on her main discipline, the 800m, having coasted through Saturday's heats in 2:06.11.
In a high-quality race, she led the field home in 1:57.21, dragging 2021 world U20 silver medallist Valentina Rosamilia (1:58.74) and Veronica Vancardo (1:59.11) under two minutes.
It sets her up as favourite in one of the most eagerly awaited events of Birmingham 2026, where her likely opposition will include Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson and twice 400m hurdles world champion Femke Broeders-Bol, who has shown impressive form in her new event.
The Swiss Athletics Championships also included victories for European champion Angelica Moser in the women's pole vault (4.70m), European bronze medallist Jason Joseph in the men's 110m hurdles (13.30), and an impressive win in the women's 100m for Géraldine Di Tizio-Frey in a personal best and European lead of 10.96 (0.5m/s).
