Hosts Finland have selected a team of 48 athletes for the European Athletics U20 Championships in Tampere from 7-10 August.
The European Athletics U20 Championships will be streamed live in its entirety on the European Athletics website courtesy of Eurovision Sport and will be accompanied by expert English-language commentary.
Their team features reigning European U18 heptathlon champion Enni Virjonen and world U20 discus bronze medallist Mico Lampinen who has entered both the discus and the hammer.
The men’s throws could be a particularly successful area for the hosts. Aatu Kangasniemi has entered the shot put and hammer and he is ranked second on the 2025 European U20 list in both events with 20.51m and 76.32m respectively.
There will also be expectations of a possible medal in the javelin with Juho Siokkeli and 2022 European U18 champion Topi Parviainen who are ranked fifth and eighth respectively on the 2025 European U20 list.
“The team is delightfully large. In addition to these 48 athletes, reserve athletes who stayed home were selected for some events. The team has several medal hopes and prospects of success in practically all groups of disciplines,” says team leader Eeva Kantomäki.
