Italy has named a team of 91 athletes for the European Athletics U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland from 7-10 August.
The European Athletics U20 Championships will be streamed live in its entirety on the European Athletics website courtesy of Eurovision Sport and will be accompanied by expert English-language commentary.
The team is replete with gold medal-winners from the 2024 European Athletics U18 Championships in Banska Bystrica where they topped the medal table, including Elisa Valensin (200m, 4x100m), Diego Nappi (200m, 4x100m), Pietro Villa (javelin), Alessio Coppola (men’s 10,000, race walk) and Serena Di Fabio (women’s 10,000m race walk).
And they will be joined by many of their gold medallists from the recent European Youth Olympic Festival in Skopje, North Macedonia where Italy also topped the medal table including 15-year-old Kelly Doualla who won 100m gold in a European U18 best of 11.21. This time also leads the European U20 100m list with Tampere 2025 just over a week away.
Other gold medallists from Skopje who have been named on the team include European U18 silver medallist Margherita Castellani (200m, 4x100m), Diego Mancini (400m hurdles) and Alessia Succo (100m hurdles).
The Italian team also includes two bronze medallists from last year’s World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima: Erika Saraceni (triple jump) and Giuseppe Disabato (10,000m race walk), both of whom lead the European U20 list in their respective events.
Saraceni was an excellent third at the European Athletics Team Championships with 14.08m while Disabato, who won the U20 10km at the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady, leads the European U20 list in the 10,000m race walk by over two minutes with 39:24.99.
