Spain has named a 40-strong team deep in medal contenders for the Lagoa 2025 SPAR European Cross Country Championships in neighbouring Portugal on 14 December.
Among their medal hopes are the men’s senior team who will be looking to defend the title won last year in Antalya. It will be spearheaded by Thierry Ndikumwenayo, individual bronze medallist 12 months ago.
The team will be bolstered by the inclusion of national 10 km record-holder Ilias Fifa and Olympic 3000m steeplechase finalist Daniel Arce.
A strong senior women’s team will be led by European marathon silver medallist Majida Maayouf.
Formidable relay line up
In the mixed relay, Spain is calling upon some of its finest track talents with a formidable team consisting of three-times mixed relays medallist Esther Guerrero, European 800m silver medallist Mohamed Attaoui, 2022 world indoor 800m champion Mariano García, and rising star Marta Mitjans, who set a Spanish U20 800m record this summer.
Spain’s will also bring strong team in the age group races. Bergen 2025 European Athletics U23 Championships medallists María Forero (gold, women’s 5000m) and Jaime Migallón (bronze, men’s 10,000m) lead competitive U23 squads.
Meanwhile the U20 teams feature several finalists from the Tampere 2025 European Athletics U20 Championships, including Andrés Lara (bronze, men’s 3000m steeplechase) and Claudia Gutiérrez (fourth, women’s 1500m).
